Legislative Session Update, Week 7

Senate Bill 253 by Senator Clay Scofield is a free-market approach to increasing private investment to build high-speed internet access across the state.  It amends the Alabama Renewal Act to provide an investment tax credit and other incentives to telecommunication facilities in rural areas of the state.

The Senate approved SB54 by Sen. Cam Ward that will ease the financial burden on sheriff’s departments by allowing Medicaid to cover some of an inmates medical costs.

The Alabama Senate approves the largest Education Budget since 2008.  The FY 2018 budget allocates $6.4 million to Alabama’s K-12 schools, community colleges and universities.
