Session Updates

-Governor signs the law making it unlawful to text message or operate a handheld wireless telecommunication device while operating a motor vehicle on a public roadway.

-Final passage of a bill that allows for the appointment of private or retired judges to circuit and district courts positions.

-Final passage to a bill which provides supplemental appropriations from Education Trust Fund to Education Department to compensate teachers certified by National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.

-Final passage to a bill which provides an income tax refund check-off fpor the Spay-Neuter Program to the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation.

-Final passage to the legislative compensation bill which ties members pay to the median annual household income in Alabama, legislators submit signed vouchers for reimbursement.  This is a Constitutional Amendment which must be ratified by the voters.

-Crime of Looting, established with penalties.  Violation would be Class C felony.
- Sales Tax Holiday.  Certain covered items would be exempt from the state sales and use tax during the first full weekend in July in 2012 and the last full weekend of February in subsequent years.

-Passed a bill making Abortions, ectopic pregnancies excluded from definition of “abortion” when used in Code of Alabama 1975 and the Alabama Administrative Code.

-Final passage to a bill regarding E-911 services and establishing a statewide board to replace Commercial Radio Service Board and provides that service charge be collecedt and deposited into E-911 fund and distribute to local E-911 district to implement enhanced E-911. 

-Final passage of the Alabama Residential Mortgage Satisfaction Act. The bill provides for timely payoff statements and timely recording of mortgage satisfaction.
