Albertville Regional Airport has been awarded an Aviation Improvement Program grant (AIP) to make improvements at the airport.  Mayor Tracy Honea, Senator Clay Scofield, Representative Kerry Rich, and Representative David Standridge announce the $728,167 in AIP funding for work which will commence next week.

Airport Manager, Jerry Cofield says the scope of the work involves erosion control and maintenance of the aircraft parking ramp area directly in fron of the BAE hangar facility.  Also, a crack seal and Sealcoat on approximately 40% of the existing ramp area will be applied to extend the life of the asphalt.

90 percent of the funding comes from the FAA with ALDOT contributing 5 percent and the City of Albertville matching the remaining 5 percent.  Mayor Tracy Honea says he appreciates the assistance from the FAA and State Aeronautics Bureau and the support of the county legislative delegation in securing the funding.

“The Albertville Regional Airport is a huge asset to our area for both transportation and economic development.  The Marshall County Legislative Delegation is proud to partner with the City of Albertville on these improvements,” Senator Scofield said.

Rep. Kerry Rich said, “Any improvement at the airport helps our entire region. The Albertville Airport is a tremendous asset to our area especially in economic development. Thanks to ALDOT, the FAA and Mayor Honea and the city of for this grant.”

Whittaker Contracting out of Guntersville won the bid and will complete the project in approximately 60-90 days.
